Louie Giglio, the kind, elderly gentleman known for his trendy fashion and spirited preaching at the Passion Conference, appeared on stage this week in a full astronaut suit, demonstrating that he clearly has no idea what teens are wearing these days. Many in the crowd were spirit-filled, keeping their giggles to themselves. The less “Gospel-centered,” however, were more boisterous: “We laughed really hard when Louie came out in his astronaut suit. We thought it was a big joke or a metaphor or something. Then he started to speak and it became clear he was just trying to fit in,” William Stacey, a Passion 2017 attendant recalled.
According to some who were watching the live-stream at home, he was extremely difficult to hear. Beth Poorman of Indiana recounts, “Giglio was probably sharing something wonderfully motivational, we just couldn’t make out what he was saying. The glass helmet muffled his speech. It was a nightmare.”
