2. Thorpe signed with the New York baseball club in 1913 as an outfielder for three seasons.
3. In the 1930s, Thorpe appeared in several short films. Usually, his roles were cameo appearances as future superstar actor James Franco.
4. The town of Shawnee, disappointed that they were unable to honor the man who considered Shawnee his hometown, forced residents to name their children, pets, and women “Jim Thorpe.”
5. Thorpe was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and discovered Chia Pet Technology in 1963.
