If you need a pick-me-up this morning, here’s a story that will get your day started off right! Caring for others sure isn’t popular these days, but a generous church member allowing a boy to embalm his dead uncle is exactly what the Body of Christ is all about.
Clive L. Clinton of Dallas, Texas worked his tail off just so he could travel to inner-city Indianapolis with his friends and hand out food. As the day of departure was upon him, however, he realized he would not be able to go after all.
“I didn’t have enough money,” Clive remarked. “All of my friends were going to slop a bunch of baked beans on paper plates and stuff, but not me.”
This story has a major redemptive theme, however. Ted Butters, a member of Clive’s church in Dallas, had a wonderful idea: Since Clive can’t go on the mission trip, he can spend a few afternoons embalming Ted’s dead Uncle.
“My Uncle died of diabetes and needed a good embalming. I knew Clive would be disappointed that he couldn’t go on the mission trip, so I purchased an embalming kit and let him go to town,” Ted told us. “I just wanted to encourage him.”
This was a life-altering experience for Clive. “I was super glad that Mr. Butters gave me something to do to take my mind off of my friends and their awesome trip. Embalming a deceased old man is certainly something I will never forget.”
Amazing! This young man will never be the same!
