As he approached the back of the sanctuary, shaking hands as he regularly does, one man caused his smile to turn into a worry-laden, upside-down mouth of sadness. “Pastor Roger shook my hand and thanked me for my attendance as usual. As he turned, however, his face-flaps turned into a less-happy shape as he stood in front of Jed Wolf, a regular of UCMO for thirty-years. Pastor called him ‘Quail,'” remembers Barbara Gleason.
“He called me ‘Quail’ and did not correct his mistake,” Jed told us. “He was clearly uncomfortable with it all, but didn’t have the guts to ask me what my name was. He’s lucky that I have been forced to attend this church by my wife, Glenneth.”
“Quail? That’s the name you come up with? This is an outrage. He could’ve said ‘Hey man,’ or ‘What’s up, guy?’ but instead, Pastor Roger settled on a small ground-nesting game bird in the pheasant family Phasianidae. Coturnix is the Latin for this species,” asserted Glenneth Wolf.
As far as we know, Roger still doesn’t know this man’s name, but it is inexplicable for him to call him “Quail.” Pastor Roger could not be reached for comment.
